Movie "61" was based on Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle's race to break Babe Ruth's 1927 single-season home run record. The movie was directed by Mickey Mantle fan Billy Crystal. Thomas Jane would play Mickey Mantle with Barry Pepper playing Roger Maris. Babe Ruth would hit 60 home runs during the 1927 season; a feat that lasted till 1961. Maris came over to the Yankees in 1960 and joined the Mick. Both would love to play in Yankee Stadiun as it was home run friendly for both. They would start the 1961 season with a bang, both hitting home runs and getting fans to start thinking about Mantle hitting 61 home runs. Fans were all rooting for Mickey but Maris was keeping pace. As the season wore on Mantle was playing with injuries and would would drop out of the race. Maris would go on to hit his 61st home run on the last day of the season. Jersey was worn in the movie and was purchased from gentleman who sells props. Jersey has coustom tag with notation 61*. Jersey was made by AIS and is an exact copy of what Mantle would of worn except the size is a 40. If you are looking for a Mantle jersey this is pretty cool and it is from a movie about Mantle.
