1979 would be a magical year for the city of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates would rally from three games to one deficit to take the Series in seven, the last two victories at Baltimore's Memorial Stadium. With the Steelers having claimed victory in Super Bowl XIII earlier in the year, it's an era of glory in Steeltown that will never be forgotten. Willie Stargell"s World Series ring sold for $82,852.80 recently and this ring is identical with the exception of the name on the side and the number 8 in the star where this ring has KDKA. Genuine diamonds give sparkle to the logo letter "P" set into a black stone on the ring's face, encircled by raised text announcing "Pirates World Champions." Left shank Pirates mascot and that "Sister Sledge" disco song title, "We Are Family." with KDKA on top of a star. Willie Stargell began the practice of handing out embroidered “Stargell Stars” in 1978 to his teammates for their caps after making great plays, so it was only appropriate to add to the ring’s design. Right shank holds a Three Rivers Stadium in miniature with a boldly crafted "1979." Interior band is stamped "Jostens 10K," and measures to a size 12.25. Rare ring comes with original 2 boxes with the ring box that we have never seen before that features the WE ARE FAMILY and Pirate mascot logo. Ring has light wear so we would grade it near mint.
