Mattingly became the Yankees' starting first baseman after a successful rookie season. Mattingly would win the Batting Title in his second season beating out teammate Dave Winfield on the final day of the season. He would follow up with a American League MVP in 1985. The Yankees later retired Mattingly's uniform number, 23. Mattingly is the only Yankee to have his number retired without having won a World Series with the team. Mattingly would be the last Yankee captain until Jeter was made captain. Bat is uncracked with nice use and heavy tar. Bat was used for BP and possible game use before being BP. There is grain separation to back barrel with some small nails. Also visible is where tape was removed from barrel. Model T141 34 inches and 31.1 ounces. PSA LOA.
