It was 1960, the inaugural year of the upstart American Football League, with Bud Adams as a founding member of the Houston Oilers. Adams hired Lou Rymkus as the team's first coach. The Oilers made an initial statement when they signed Heisman winner Billy Cannon and future Hall of Famer George Blanda. The Oilers won their first two games against the Raiders and Chargers and finished the season 10-4. The first AFL Championship game pitted Houston against the Chargers in a game that was played at Jeppesen Stadium and saw the Oilers win 24-16. Blanda would pass for over 300 yards and Cannon was named the game's MVP. Rymkus was named AFL Coach of the Year following the season. Ring is size 11.5, manufactured by Jostens in 10K. Ring has a blue stone surrounded by 'First AFL Championship Houston Oilers.' Right side has 'Reynolds' with a helmet below with '1960.' Left side has AFL logo with score 24-16. The team was awarded charms for the first championship, so this ring was likely made later for a reunion. Ring shows wear (7), with light manufacturer's stamping inside. LOA from Remkus's son.
